Everest Base Camp with Lhasa
Tibet one of those extraordinary destination where indeed adventure lurks around every corner! Adventure on the road is never short on the beautiful Transhimalayan drive, through mountain, passes, promising a panorama of a cultural and scenic diversity unsurpassable anywhere. It culminates on an arid plateau - a varitable treasure trove of architectural masterpieces - the Buddhist monasteries of Drepung, once the largest in the country The Jhokhang - a spiritual center, and the awesome palaces of the Dalai Lama - Norbulinga ( the summer palace ) and the Potala (the traditional seat ). Ancient Barkhor Bazaar still barters the bric -- a -- brac, in a region that’s not so much a little strange as utterly surreal.

| Day 01 | Kathmandu - Zhangmu - Nyalam (2300m)-127kms. Departure at 5:30 hr. from Kathmandu. After an approx. 6 hours drive we reach Kodari (China /Nepal Boarder). Further half a drive by truck will bring us to Zhangmu, where after completion of immigration formalities all check into hotel. Overnight in hotel. If time permit drive to Nyalam. Zhangmu: Zhangmu (2300 metres) is remarkable town that hugs the rim of a seemingly no ending succession of hairpin bends down the customs area at the border of China. Nyalam (3750 metres) is a funky little town around 30 km before the Nepal border. It has been steadily growing in size and facilities have been improving over the last few years. This no doubt due to burgeoning trade opportunities with near by Nepal. Some tour groups coming up from Kathmandu spend the night at Nyalam. |
| Day 02 | Zhangmu - Xear (4350m)-224kms Gangue or Nyalam, the road follows the Bhote Koshi river in a deep valley with plenty of waterfalls. After 1.5 hr. drive bring us to Nyalam Pass (3800m) with the Jugal Himal in view. A continued drive via Lalungla (5050m) will bring us in view of Mt. Langtang (7245m) , Mt. Xixapangma (8013m) & Mt. Dorje Lakpa (6980m) , Mt. Makalu (8464m), Mt. Everest (8848m), Mt. Lhotse(8516m), & Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m). overnight in hotel. |
| Day 03 | Xegar - Rongbuck From Shegar The Everest access road turns off the Friendship Highway around five km west of Shegar check point shortly after km market 494, from which point it winds and climbs its way 63 km to Rongbuk Monastery and on to base camp. Although there were probably monastic settlements in the area for several hundred years, Rongbuk Monastery is fairly recent. It was established in 1902 by a Nyingmapa Lama. Perhaps not of great antiquity, it can at least lay claim to being the highest monastery in Tibet and thus the world, at 4980 meters. There were once 500 monks and nums living here but local reports that the number is now only 16. Accommodation and very basic food are available at the monastery. The rooms are comfortable, heated with stoves. |
| Day 04 | Rongbuck - Everest Base Camp It is just over two hours walk from Rongbuk Monastery to the Base Camp. Vehicles do the trip in around 10 to 15 minutes. The walk is fairly straightforward, even if the altitude has you puffing within a few minutes of starting out. The base camp is a dry, barren place, but the views of Everest more than make up for this. Have a photo taken a the base camp marker which disappointingly does not even mention the world “Everest” It reads Mt Qomolangma Base Camp and the Chinese below in indicates 5200 metres above the sea level. On a small hill to the left of the base camp marker are a couple of prayer poles. Clamber up for great views of the world’s highest peak. |
| Day 05 | Everest Base Camp - Tingari Breakfast morning: Leaving for Tingari. Along the way visit Monastery. Overnight in Tibgari. |
| Day 06 | Tingri - Sigatse Lhatze is over a 5220m. pass. Near the petrol station, there is a small restaurant where tea /snacks are available. Depending upon the road conditions, Sakya Monastery which is 26 km. Off from the main road will be visited. SAKYA is one of the oldest and most important monastery. Reach Xigatse, the place of the famous Tashilumpo Monastery the seat of Panchen Lama until his death in 1989 with its huge Thanka Wall cleary visible on north side of the road. Overnight in hotel |
| Day 07 | Xigatse - Gyantse (3950m) - 90km After visiting Tashilunpo Monastery in the morning including the Bazaar of Xigatse, drive to Gyantse which is 2 hrs. Gyantse is small bustling town steeped in history. It lies 264 km Southwest of Lhasa on the northern bank of Nyang Chu river. In the 15 Th. Century is served as the Capital of a small Kingdom. Visit Kumbum Chorten & Phklkor Monstery which was built around 1400 AD It later became the main center for trade with British / India. Overnight hotel. |
| Day 08 | Gyantses - Lhasa (3650M) - 260km 08 hr. drive takes you to Lhasa crossing the Karola Pass(5010m) and Kambala Pass (4794m.). The KAROLA climbs between two lofty mountains, NOZING KHANG SA (7223m) and RALUNG (6236m). While driving you will see the YAMDROK TSO (Truquoise Lake) which takes approx. 1 hour to cross around. After passing KAMBALA , Lhasa Valley is seen to the north. You will also cross the Brahmaputra River. Reaching Lhasa and check in hotel. The accompanied guide will reconfirm your onward airline ticket. Overnight in hotel. |
| Day 09 | In Lhasa These days you will be engrossed with sightseeing and excursions of The Potala Palace, The Jokhang Temple surrounding Barkhor market Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery. Overnight in hotel. |
| Day 10 | Lhasa - Kathmandu Transfer to airport our Representative will assist you. Departure of flight for Kathmandu would be approx. 10.00 hr. China Standard Time and arriving Kathmandu at 09 hr. Nepal Standard Time. Flight Lhasa / Kathmandu lasts for 01 hour ten minutes. During the flight you will see the following: Yarlung Tsangpo River, Lake Yamdrok, Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m) and Mt. Makalu (8463m) and Mt. Everest(8848m) . (Weather Permitting). |
